FORT PORTAL — Roke Telkom Uganda made donations worth seven million shillings in scholastic materials and food items to Maana Rescue Home Nsorro in Fort Portal. The home houses vulnerable children living with HIV/AIDs to provide a secure, loving, and stable environment for their growth and development.

The donated items included Bags of rice, sugar, maize flour, toiletries, jerry cans, and soap among other necessities required for the home’s sustenance, feeding and proper sanitation.
According to Allan Kajubi the Client Relations Lead at Roke Telkom Uganda, the donation is part of the brand’s Annual Corporate Social Responsibility dubbed Roke Gives Back, an initiative to provide support and give back to the vulnerable community.

He remarked that, “Roke Telkom is pleased to be able to make such a contribution to society. It is our conviction that the support we are extending as a Home-Grown brand to the children’s homes today will make an impact and ease the load of the caretakers, especially during such challenging times.”

In 2019, Uganda had an estimated 1.5 million people living with HIV and only 66% of the infected children between the ages of 0-14 years living on antiretroviral treatment.

Catherine Baseke the Social worker at Maana Rescue Home in her remarks explained that, “The home accommodates about 30 HIV positive children and provides education, comfort, and shelter to them with a consistent effort put towards encouraging them to take their medication and live a healthy and happy life.”

Carol Adams the Director of Youth Encouragement Services commended RokeTelkom for the donation saying that, “We are grateful for the support, not only on behalf of the children but also the caretakers. It helps ease the strain on the expenses especially during this COVID-19 pandemic where much support from some sources has dwindled.”

Roke Telkom last week visited Generation in Action Center, a home for orphaned children in Gulu, and made donations to improve their livelihood, as well as spend quality time with the children.

This year, Roke Telkom is set to visit different children’s homes in 5 districts across the country that include; Gulu, Fort portal, Mbale, Jinja, and Kampala.
