3 test positive for COVID-19 at Umeme, Lugogo offices temporarily closed

KAMPALA – Umeme Limited, Uganda’s largest power distributor has confirmed three coronavirus cases as per tests results issued on Tuesday September 15,2020.

Umeme’s head of Communications Peter Kaujju has revealed that they screened all staff as part of the proactive measures in checking the spread of the Virus.

“This week, samples were picked from some of our staff at the Lugogo Technical Centre in Industrial Area Kampala by Lacent Labaratories,” he said in a statement dated September 16.

Kaujju noted that they engaged the concerned staff and their families to offer their support and referred them to a distinguished health facility for further observation, management and treatment as their contacts are being traced.

“The Lugogo Technical Centre in Industrial Area will be temporarily closed for two days effective today to allow disinfection,” reads an excerpt.

He further encouraged customers and stakeholders to use the digital channels to engage with their staff.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 143 coronavirus cases from tests done on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

This brings the total confirmed cases of Ugandans to 5,206.

Uganda has also registered two COVID-19 deaths from Mbale and Soroti.

This rises the death toll to 60 while 2,404 people have recovered from COVID-19.
