KAMPALA – Leaders of the Alliance for National Transformation party (ANT) have paid a courtesy call on Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Membership to the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) in light of three MPs joining ANT, has been one of the issues. The ANT delegation included party leader Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Secretary General Alice Alaso and newly recruited MP Paul Mwiru.

The MPs who have recently joined the ANT party include Hon. Paul Mwiru of Jinja East, who joined Parliament on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ticket; Hon. Gerald Karuhanga and Hon. Kasiano Wadri. The latter two have hitherto been on Independent tickets.

Speaker Kadaga said she was going to consult widely, especially on the issue of IPOD and MPs that have switched allegiance. The law allows any MP to cross to any party of choice during the last six months of Parliament’s tenure. This week, other MPs joined Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi’s National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
The stakeholders to be consulted include Parliament’s Legal Dept; the Uganda Law Society; and others.
