COVID-19 UPDATE: Uganda records 53 cases on Wednesday as death toll rises to 16

KAMPALA – Uganda has registered 53 new COVID-19 inflections on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

This brings the total confirmed cases to 1,656.

According to MoH, 35 are alerts and 18 are contacts to previously confirmed cases.

Regarding the alert cases, MoH says 28 are from Kampala, two from Wakiso, two from Amuru and three from Buikwe, Buvuma and Ssoroti.

Among the contacts to confirmed cases, 10 are from Kikuube, five from Kampala and three from Busia, Masindi and Wakiso.

MoH further revealed that eleven-track drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

On the other hand, MoH has announced one COVID-19 death bringing the total death toll to 16.

The deceased, MOH has revealed was a 60-year-old male from Mbale district.

“He presented at a private health facility in Mbale District with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and was under isolation,” said MOH in a statement.

“He was then referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further management where he passed on,” the statement further reads.

Cumulative COVID-19 recoveries to date is 1,188.
