Coronavirus cases rise to 2,679 as 155 new cases are registered

KAMPALA – The Ministry of Health has confirmed 155 new COVID-19 cases from tests done on August 26, 2020.

This brings the cumulative confirmed cases of Ugandans to 2, 679.

According to the health ministry, part of the new cases were 140 alerts and contacts with the highest cases from Kampala district.

“Kampala-71, Kikuube-12, Jinja-8, Wakiso-8, Mbarara-6, Tororo-5, Gulu-4, Kitgum-3, Pader-3, kisoro-2, Buikwe-2, Luweero-2, Bundibugyo-1, Busia-1, Isingiro-1, Kapchorwa-1, Kasese-1, Kiryandongo-1, Kyegegwa-1 and Mbale-1,” reads a statement dated August 27.

9 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19 with 6 from Kampala, 2 from Wakiso and 1 from Jinja.

MOH further revealed that 5 truck drivers from different points of entry as well as one returnee from United Arab Emirates (UAE) were infected with the virus.

“Fourteen truck drivers from different entry points tested positive for COVID-19 and their entry into the country was not permitted,” reads an excerpt.

Additionally two Coronavirus deaths have been recorded bringing the death toll to 28.

Both are males aged 58 years and 59 years from Kapchorwa and Mbale districts respectively.
