KAMPALA – Comedian Hussein Muyonjo Ibanda a.k.a Swengere who recently recorded a comedy video saying all top government officials in Uganda are Basoga has been summon by Uganda Police Force to appear at CPS Jinja tomorrow at 9am on charges of inciting violence.
In an interview with PML Daily on Monday, Swengere said he is ready to honour the police summons, arguing that he has done nothing wrong.
He explained that his comedy is simply satire that should be treated as such.
Swengere’s summons come after Police on Monday arrested veteran talk show host Basajjamivule for allegedly promoting tribal sentiments.
The plain clothed security personnel picked Mivule from Baba TV offices in Kampala where he was hosting a morning show called Fumintiriza.
Last Friday, police arrested four comedians who call themselves Bizonto (the deranged) for allegedly inciting tribalism.
Government spokesman Ofwono Opondo told journalists in Kampala on Monday that the promoters of tribal sentiments are not aware of what it can do to the country’s stability.
“This primitive talk of tribalism is being promoted by the opposition wanting to paint a bad picture about this government. We understand that we are in a political season but we shall not allow people to preach hate and discrimination on tribal lines. The long arm of the law shall squeeze those who think are big headed,” Mr Opondo said.
