KAABONG – Three suspected South Sudanese armed poachers have been shot dead by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers in Kidepo National Park in Karamoja region.

Two guns of South Sudan brand with the registration numbers 49006202 and 49009924 were recovered from the poachers.

Major Peter Mugisa, the UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson told this website that the poachers who were in a big group were shot dead on Wednesday as they attempted to kill animals in the park.

“These poachers met our soldiers carrying their daily foot patrol in Kidepo Valley National Valley Game Park, the poachers fired at our soldiers, forcing our soldiers to respond within 30 minutes three were put out of action while others ran in confusion,” he said.

Mugisa said that the army also recovered one pair of camouflaged Uniform for South Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), one military Back Park and many bow and arrows from the poachers.

He vowed that the army will not get tired of killing any armed poachers as per President Museveni’s directive giving a go ahead to UPDF to put shot to kill any armed illegal poacher in the game park.
