KAMPALA – The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango has said that the fire outbreak at Kasubi tombs was minor, and had not caused substantial damage.
The police said in a Friday afternoon statement that it’s Fire brigade services has put out the fire and the tombs were now safe.
In a social media video, the Fire brigade is seen trying to put out a fire at one of the structures, at Kasubi Tombs.
Onyango in a statement said that one of the huts that caught fire was quickly extinguished by officers from the Directorate of Fire and Rescue Services.
“The fire broke out at around 1300hours in one of the structures that were meters away from the main tomb. Police were informed and four fire tenders were dispatched to professionally handle the incident,” he said.
He further noted that the fire crew reached and extinguished the fire.
“The cause of the fire outbreak is not yet established,” said Onyango.
He added that investigations have commenced on what caused the fire outbreak.
Onyango noted that the extent of the damage is yet to be computed.
He further appealed to members of the public to be calm as we investigate the incident.
