KAMPALA — Uganda will on Tuesday June 9 2020, celebrate the 31 National Heroes Day Anniversary to “collectively remember the heroes and heroines who have sacrificed their lives for this country”.
President Museveni will preside over the National celebration via a video link from State House, Entebbe after public gatherings were suspended in March in the country’s effort to halt the spread of coronavirus.
“His Excellency, President Museveni, will tomorrow, June 9, preside over the National Heroes Day celebrations at State House Entebbe. Ceremonies start 9am and will be broadcast on TVs and radios. Tune in,” Senior Press Secretary to the President, Don Wanyama said.
The 31st Heroes Day Anniversary Celebration 2020 will be held under the theme: Celebrating a Memorable Day as we reflect on the selflessness of the heroes/heroines who put Nation above all else”
The deputy executive director of Uganda Media Centre, Col Shaban Bantariza, said it would be marked “scientifically”.
“A few people would be with the President in State House and then he will address the nation via TV. But that is not in the context of celebrating. We shall mark it from the comfort of our homes with masks on,” he said.
Last year’s Heroes Day celebrations were held in Kasanje town council in Wakiso district under the theme, Celebrating the courageous heroes that brought the peace and prosperity we are enjoying.
Some of the heroic values celebrated, according to the Minister for Presidency, Esther Mbayo, include proven integrity, patriotism and sacrifice, acts of bravery, setting a good example, truthfulness, and love for others.
