MBARARA – Police in Mbarara have arrested a Fuso truck driver for allegedly killing a boda boda rider in an accident at mile 4 along Mbarara-Ibanda road on Thursday morning.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira who confirmed the arrest said the unfortunate incident happened at 7:50am when a motorcycle registration number UFA800P hit head-on with a Fuso truck registration number UBF 077R killing him on spot.
“Today (Thursday) at around 7:50 am there was a fatal accident involving motor vehicle number UBF 077R Fuso fighter white in colour and a motorcycle UFA 800P boxer red in colour at mile 4 along Mbarara Ibanda road junction killing the motorcycle rider on spot,” Mr Kasasira said
According to Kasasira, the accident was caused by the reckless driving of the boda boda cyclist who made a turn in the Fuso driver’s lane.
“Cause of the accident according to the eyewitnesses was reckless riding on the side of the motorcycle rider who was coming from Ibanda side and made a turn while in the right lane at the junction going to Bushenyi road where he collided with an incoming motor vehicle from Bushenyi side which was in its lane,” he said.
The deceased according to police was identified as Alex Muhanguzi, a resident of Mabona parish, Rukiri sub-county Ibanda district and the body was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital Mortuary.
“The driver of the Fuso fighter one Nuwagaba Deus is in police custody to help with investigations,” Mr Kasasira said
