NEPAK – Flash floods caused by heavy rains have hit Napak district in Karamoja sub region with many families flooded including Kangole police station.

The floods caused by Thursday’s heavy down pour left several back load files for various cases and food staffs in Kangole central police station got shocked as police remain helpless.

Michael Ongicha, the District Police Commander said the situation has been made worse by the China Railway N03, a contractor who is finalizing the construction of Moroto, Lorengechora road.

He said the contractor deliberately opened up water channels direct to police and other people’s houses instead of creating a water drainage system that would take water and joined to the big bridge.

“Police officers got their mattresses, flour and other things floating in water inside their houses and we have tried our base to contact the UNRA team who is supervising the Chinese but they are not bothered at all,” he said.

Mr. Jimmy Tebenayng, the LCV councilor for Ngoleriet sub county in Napak district said they are planning to hold a protest against what he called stupid behaviors of UNRA team in Moroto who have deliberately failed to create a drainage channel to divert water to the main bridge.

“My home whenever it rains it becomes a lake, all the water comes from the main road direct to my home because there’s in no drainage that takes water away,” he said.

According to Tebenyang they have called UNRA team for the meeting over the same issues but they turn down the community calls.

“They are very arrogant especially a person called Bernard Ochan who’s a resident engineer of UNRA supervising the Chinese but we shall deal with him,” he said.

Several attempts by PML Daily to contact Mr. Bernard Ochan failed as he could not pickup our repeated calls.

Mr. Mike Ssali, the communication officer in UNRA also could not pick up our calls.
