MOROTO – UPDF medical personnel attached to 3rd division have been trained on how to handle and treat coronavirus patients.

The one day training that took place on Wednesday, May 27 at UPDF 3rd division headquarters Moroto was conducted by a team of UPDF Chieftaincy of Medical Services (CMS)

The UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson Major Peter Mugisa said the training was majorly focused on identification, protection, control and the technical use of protective personal equipments.

“The training has empowered our medical personnel on the means to combat corona virus and how to cater for patients with the virus in the military health centres,” he said.

According to Major Mugisa, the trained personnel will also help to render their skills in support of the district quarantine centers in case they are called upon.

Brig Dr. Steven Kusasira, the UPDF director of Medical Services who over saw the training told PML Daily that as the constitutional obligation, the Chieftaincy of Medical Service is greatly engaged in anti-Covid-19 operations in support of the ministry of health under article 209(b) that mandates UPDF to cooperate with the civilian authority during emergence situations.

“This training is intended to equip our health staff on management of mild cases of Covid 19 in our military hospitals if need arises and render their skills to quarantine centers in case they are called,” he said

At the closure of the training, the team issued out reading materials on infectious, protective and control measures on Covid 19.
