KAMPALA- President Yoweri Museveni will tonight at 8:00 p.m. deliver the much awaited address in which he is expected to announce lifting of some of the current lockdown measures as the country works to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Senior presidential press secretary, Mr Don Wanyama, said Mr Museveni would guide the nation hours before the current extended lockdown ends on Tuesday May 05.

“Tentative 13th address of Kaguta Museveni on Covid-19 pandemic will be Monday 4th May at 8pm. Prior, President will meet taskforce & cabinet to chart way forward,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Reports indicate that the President has already agreed to gradually ease the current lockdown over coronavirus which will see the country return to work.

The current 21-day extension of the lockdown ends on May 5 and according to a report seen by this website, the Cabinet sub-committee chaired by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda recommended that since the country has seemingly contained the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, with the remaining few cases reported among Tanzanian and Kenyan taxi drivers, business can gradually return to normalcy.

In an effort to tackle the spread of the coronavirus into the country from neighbouring states, the Cabinet ministers reportedly agreed that each truck will be allowed to have only a driver and he or she will be tested at the border before entering the country.

Later on Tuesday in a televised address, Museveni said stringent measures had helped in containing the spread of the disease.

“Ugandans should separate anger from logic,” Museveni said during his 12th address to the nation on the pandemic.

Nearly all the new cases of Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks have been cargo truck drivers bringing in essential commodities from Kenya and Tanzania.
