KALANGALA – The Kalangala district woman MP, Idah Nabayiga has asked Government to come to the aid of residents in the district by expediting the construction of Masaka-Bukakata road to ensure the district is not cut off from the rest of the country.

Nabayiga made the plea during Thursday’s plenary sitting where she explained that the nationwide lockdown and suspension of public transport coupled with the absence of the Kalangala ferry that was taken for maintainance by Uganda National Roads Authority, Kalangala was left with only one acess route which is Masaka-Bukakata Road, yet even this very road is in poor condition, rendering it immotorable following the floods that affected the two dustricts.

The legislator told Parliament that Kalangala district depends on Masaka district for both food and health services but currently, all patients who have been given referrals cannot have access to health facilities because there are no means of transportation to get to the health facilities in Masaka.

Joy Kabasti, Minister of State for Transport promised to follow up on the matter.
