Karamojong warriors kill LDU personnel, take off with gun and animals in Napak

Hope of peace in Karamoja has been distracted by the cattle rustlers (PHOTO/File).

NAPAK – More fear has emerged in Karamoja after warriors killed one Local Defence Unit personnel and took off with his gun and unspecified number of animals.

The incident that took place on Friday night at around 11pm in Nasike village, Ngoleriet sub-county in Napak district is the second to happened in the district with in two days after the warriors attacked the police station of Kangole.

Mr. Micheal Ongica, the District Police Commander said that these incidents will not scare the police and the army to continue protecting peace in Karamoja.

Major Peter Mugisa, the UPDF 3rd division spokesperson confirmed the incident saying these instead energizes the security forces to deal with the armed thieves.

“They killed our LDU personnel and took his gun and animals after an exchange but we are perusing them and they have not gone far they are just within but we have already surrounded the bushes where they are hiding with animals,” he said.

He, however, called for calm from the general public saying the situation was not worrying as its being portrayed by some development partners operating in Karamoja with the aim to get more funding from the donors.
