MOROTO – Officials in Karamoja have commenced the construction of Shs2 billion regional offices for the ministry of water and environment.
At the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 7 in Moroto Municipality, Eng Jonson Opige, the manager of small and urban town’s water supply in the ministry of water said the construction of these offices in Karamoja is aimed at bringing services nearer to the people in the region.
According to Eng Opige, Karamoja water and sanitation projects were being managed under Mbale regional office but now it will stand as its own region.
“I want to thank the government for granting funds for the construction of ministry of water regional offices in Karamoja. With this it will now make it easier to address the water challenge in Karamoja,” he said.
The 12-month project is expected to be completed in March 2022.
Eng. Plan Mugisha, the Executive Director Palm Construction Company limited assured the officials of quality work.
He also promised to employee 90% of the local people apart from few who will work as managers and supervisors that will be brought from Kampala and other districts.
“Am very happy to have been chosen as one out of many companies that had applied for this work, I promise to work with local leaders to ensure that the project succeeds,” he said.
Mr. Peter Ken Lochap, the Resident District Commissioner, Moroto assured the constructor of total peace in the due course.
