KAMPALA – The members of staff at the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) have boosted the National Response Fund to COVID-19 with 4.5 tonnes maize flour worth UGX. 10.5 million as the country battles the effects of the Coronavirus disruptions.
The donation was on Monday, May 4, handed over to the Minister for General Duties Mary Karooro Okurut, who also oversees the fundraising effort and the Fund on behalf of the President.
On the same day, construction firm SBC, a sister club to SBI International handed over donations of medical and food supplies worth UGX. 70 million including 4,000 kilos of maize flour, 1,378 kilos of beans, and 359 kilos of sugar.
Mr. Dotan Hameiri, the SBC International Operations Manager said the company had earlier donated several items to the Hoima district Taskforce including, 250 litres of liquid detergent,100 boxes of surgical gloves, 100 boxes of hand gloves, 1,500 bottles of JIK, 250 pieces of plastic apron and five digital infrared thermometers.
For ERA, Communications Manager Julius Wandera said that the money, collected by efforts of all staff who requested that the food donation is distributed to persons living with disability in the country.

“We saw them on TV crying out for help and the staff think that this donation should be privatised too them,” Mr. Wandera said.
Minister Karooro said the government food distribution team would ensure that the donation reaches out to the earmarked recipients.
She said: “With your contribution and those from many others we believe that the fight against COVID-19 will be won especially because our frontline teams have been given the necessary support,”.
“I also wish to extend our utmost gratitude to all the individuals, businesses and organizations that have made contributions during this period,” she stated, adding that, “This pandemic is one not to be taken lightly given its global effect and we therefore need to work together to achieve our desired goals.” Hon. Okurut added.
SBC International is the company developing the Kabaale International Airport in Hoima.
