MUKONO – A total of 105 traders have Friday been arrested in an operation carried out by police, UPDF and LDUs in Mukono central town for operating unauthorized businesses.

The operation headed by the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Denis Namuwoza was carried out in areas of Industrial area, mukono town, Nasuuti among others.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest saying that the suspects are awaiting to be charged in the courts of law.

He said, “ We received intelligence reports that many traders have resorted to opening up unauthorized shops contrary to the presidential directive against the fight of Covid-19.”

Some of the shop owners were masquerading to be selling food stuffs yet they were selling utensils.

A one Margret Nantumbwe accused police for misinterpreting the presidential guidelines on the kind of shops that should be operating.

According to her, retail shops were allowed to open but police officers are busy closing and arresting the owners.
