KAMPALA – Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwiine has on Tuesday, May 12 donated 500 maks to journalists.
The donation happened after the minister observing that journalists who had gone to cover pressers at Uganda Media Center were not wearing masks.
“The masks are to help journalists during this time to cover stories without being at risk of being infected with COVID-19,” he said.
He added that, “People should take President Museveni’s directive on wearing face masks seriously.
While addressing the country on May 4, President Museveni made wearing face masks mandatory saying they limit the spread of the virus in case anyone is infected.
“We are going to make it mandatory to cover the face with a cloth mask…because the virus rides on the droplets; it cannot fly by its self. The mask may become a seedbed, of the virus,” Museveni said.
In the new guidlines issued to the police officers by the IGP JM Okoth Ochola, police officers must wear face masks at all times while on duty without excusem
This follows the establishment of two cases that happened to be of police officers who were enforcing the presidential directives.
“Failure to do this shall lead to arrest and prosecution, “Ochola said.
