With the growing concerns around COVID-19, and the safety restrictions implemented by the Government of Uganda to stop the spread of the virus, Child’s i foundation continues to offer support to our families and remain committed to seeing each child growing up in a loving family (PHOTO/Courtesy).

KAMPALA – In a bid to fight coronavirus in Uganda, Child’s i Foundation will distribute 15 bicycles over a period of 3 months to 15 community volunteers across Makindye division, to enable them to reach and support 150 vulnerable households in the community, provide vital support and increase the numbers of referrals to emergency services.

Addressing the nation earlier on the virus, President Museveni commended Local Councillors for being responsive during this period of COVID-19. Child’s i foundation says this is the structure they would like to leave behind, one that strengthens and empowers communities to work with Local Government to ensure children remain safe and with their families.

At the launch scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at Makindye Division offices thee foundation also intends to provide each volunteer with a COVID-19 preparedness and response pack to keep them safe as they do this important work, comprising of a smart phone (including data and airtime bundles) to enable volunteers to make calls, access internet messaging.

They will also be provided with Personal Protective Equipment disposable gloves, masks, hand sanitizer.

The volunteers will visit each family on a regular basis to make sure they have everything they need to be safe, healthy protected and well informed during this outbreak.

Without this support, Child’s I says, the 800 children and families on their direct caseload, especially those in higher risk and with underlying health conditions, will be put in great danger.

Child’s i Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation that helps children return to families by rebuilding family support systems. They work with partners to create foster care networks that keep children out of orphanages.
