BUSHENYI – Businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba and three Members of Parliament from Bushenyi District have donated another 20 tonnes of maize flour to the Bushenyi District Covid-19 Taskforce.

While delivering the donation on Friday, May 8, 2020, Basajjabalaba, who is also the district NRM chairman, said he mobilised it together with Bushenyi District Woman MP Mary Karooro Okurut, Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi and Igara East MP Micheal Mawanda Maranga.

“I the NRM Chairman, Ms Mary Karoro Bushenyi woman MP, Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi and Igara East MP Michael Mawanda, we decided that we should launch and mobilize support for our people. We first brought 40 tonnes and now we have brought 20.5 tonnes of maize flour,” he said.

Mr Basajjabalaba however said some politicians in the district are using the situation to front their political intentions to the extent of paying LC1s not to distribute food of people with different political views.

‘’We are supporting our people and am requesting Bushenyi district leadership, am requesting everybody that we should not mix politics into this problem because we are supporting our people and that is our intention,” Mr Basajjabalaba said.

He added: ‘’I am told that some leaders who want to contest are giving LC1
chairpersons Shs30,000 not to distribute this food. I have already reported to Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema about the money being exchanged and if it is proved to be true then that is unfortunate.’’

Bushenyi Resident district Commissioner Jolly Tibemanya said they are investigating cases where people are refusing to distribute food because they do not support donors politically so that whoever found
are arrested and charged.
