KAMPALA —Uganda has on Saturday May 9 confirmed 2 new COVID-19 cases, according to Ministry of Health.

The new cases were identified from 1,913 samples collected from truck drivers on Saturday May 9 2020.

According to the break down, one of the new cases is a Ugandan 30 year old truck driver who returned to country via Mirama Hills point of entry and a 40 year old Kenyan truck driver who arrived via Malaba border post.

All the 652 samples collected from the community members tested negative for Corona virus.

The Health Ministry, says they have commenced to track the drivers and will inform the public accordingly.

According to Dr. Diana Atwine, the Health Ministry, Permanent Secretary, they are working hard to ensure that the testing kicks off at the border.

“With that we shall be allowing them to leave with their results .We need the support of everyone to get there,” she said during the day.

The total number of recovered cases in the country stands at 55.

Among the 13 truck drivers confirmed for COVID-19 on 08 May 2020, 5 truck drivers were intercepted, evacuated and have been admitted at various hospitals in the country while 8 truck drivers self exited to their respective countries.
