KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has commended Ugandans for their patience and vigilance as the government works to halt the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The President said on Friday, April 24, 2020:
“We have been engaged in the fight against this virus and we are doing well so far. We shall defeat this virus”.
He added:
“I salute the people of the Republic of Uganda. You have listened to our advice and also generously donated to the cause. I salute you, thank you very much,” President Museveni said while flagging off a fleet of vehicles to help the Ministry of Health in the fight against coronavirus at district level.

“My intention is that we build a crisis fleet that will be spared for times of crisis like these and I will not allow officials to misuse these cars”, the President said
He added that this is just the beginning and “we are going to build this fleet to benefit hospitals and districts”.

To start with, he said, his administration is targeting at least 1350 cars such that every district gets about 10 cars.

The President said government started at the airport and now his shifting to land borders after tests have shown that there are problems with the truck drivers.

“We want to test these drivers before they come here. They should only be allowed to move when the results are released. I will give a detailed address on this matter on Tuesday”.
