KAMPALA – Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has revealed that since its creation in 2018, the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SHACU) has so far conducted anti corruption investigations worth Shs250b.

He made the revelations while addressing the media on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

According to Opondo, 146 persons have been charged before the courts of law.

“Out of whom are 120 public officers currently on interdiction and 26 are private companies/individuals, ” he said.

He added that fourteen of these persons have been convicted and other cases pending judgement in court.

He further revealed that a total of Shs1.73b was recovered from labour export companies that had taken money from youths with the promise of jobs in the middle east and failed to provide the jobs.

“Shs738m was money recovered from air supplies from gaming and lotteries board and returned to treasury,” he revealed.
