KAMPALA – The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Keith Muhakanizi, has reacted with consternation to reports that he directed journalist Andrew Mwenda to pick Shs5 billion in cash from Bank of Uganda.

While appearing on NBS TV on Wednesday, April 29, Presidential Adviser on Media Joseph Tamale Mirundi claimed that Mwenda, on the directives of Muhakanizi, recently went to BoU headquarters in Kampala and withdrew Shs5b and took it in his vehicle.

Mr Mirundi, who claimed to have video evidence to support his claims, wondered how this could happen.

But Mr Muhakanizi in an email exchange with this website dismissed the allegations.

“And you really believe this? This is impossible? How? No one can get money from the central bank or anywhere else without clear documentation. Let him produce the evidence to prove his claims,” he said.

Presidential Advisor Tamale Mirundi (R) is involved in a war against journalist Andrew Mwenda and says the latter picked UGX. 5bn from the Central bank mafia style (PHOTO/File).

The controversial former journalist fell out with Mwenda, accusing the latter of leading a crusade against him, leading to his loss of the job in State House as the presidential press secretary.

In his weekly TV and radio appearances, Mirundi has always criticized many senior government officials whom he said make the President unpopular through their corrupt means.
