KAMPALA — City businessman Hamis Kigundu has on Saturday April 04, handed over UGX. 100M to government for relief distribution programme in Kampala Metropolitan Area (KMA).

He handed over the donation to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda who flagged off the distribution in Bwaise Kampala.

Mr. Kugndu said the donation should help in food relief distribution to vulnerable people affected by the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Rugunda who heads the response team under OPM said other districts will only be considered if resources are available.

“To ensure social distancing, the food relief will be house to house, door to door. There will be no lining and if we detect any form of crowding, the distribution will be suspended,” he said.

Security forces are in charge of the relief distribution.

The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Betty Amongi, said the relief food distribution exercise will be conducted on a door-to-door basis.

“Stay in your homes and we shall find you there,” she said.

The President on Friday night called upon the wealthy to support government’s efforts in fighting coronavirus.

“I call upon our rich people to contribute brand-new 4WD vehicles so that I can build up this fleet and we use them to fight this virus,” he appeals.

Those who can contribute food are also welcome, he added.
