COVID-19 CRISIS: StarTimes launches homeschooling lessons to teach school children during coronavirus lockdown

KAMPALA — StarTimes has announced Home Schooling Programme on its kids channels including ST Kids, Nickelodeon, Da Vinci and Baby TV in a bid to support parents during the coronavirus pandemic.

The development was revealed by StarTimes Public Relations Manager Cleopatra Koheirwe on Thursday, April 02, announcing that the channels and content are also available on the OTT platform StarTimes ON, which can both be broadcast on live and repeated as required.

“Considering the fact that schools were closed due to the pandemic, we want to make sure that every child can stay safe while still achieving knowledge in both health and academic sectors in the comfort of their homes, she said adding that ‘ Homeschooling keeps the kids occupied and entertained.”

The leading PayTV is hoping this move will help parents with the challenge of homeschooling.

Now any child with a television can get access to his or her basic educational needs as the programme will what children temporarily out of school might need.

She said this month, (April) more Children content will be broadcast on prime time, ranging from one to three hours a day including Home schooling content in early morning for children at primary education stage; a series of fascinating cartoons before noon; 2 hours animations afternoon.

Home schooling is an educational TV program which opens the doors to creative education for students who have to stay at home due to COVID outbreak.

Programming was commissioned late last month (March 27) it’s every Monday – Friday on ST kids by 10:00am CAT and includes science, handcraft, painting and dance.

There are now more than 8 million children of the country’s student population — whose schools have closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Ministry of Education.
