GULU – The Gulu District Covid-19 Taskforce was on Friday left in disbelief after a 13-year-old orphan donated Shs50,000 towards the fight against coronavirus.

Nicholas Opiyo Ogweng, 13, is a Primary Six pupil at St Bwoga Ongutu Primary School in Gulu Municipality.

He said that he lays bricks to earn a living and pay his school fees.

“However when I had over the Radio calling upon people to donate the little they had towards this deadly virus; I thought it was wise to share with the Task Force and also help in the fight,” Opiyo said, adding that he walked 9kms to donate.

“I heard the virus can kill million in a single day if we don’t fight it. I am happy I have done something to fight COVID-19 in my District,” Opio added.

Gulu District Communications Officer Gloria Aloyo applauded Opiyo for challenging people who are hesitant to support the fight against COVID-19

“As the district we appreciate all the donations given towards the fight of COVID-19 and encourage the general public to continue supporting us,” Ms Aloyo said.

She appealed to the general public to continue obeying president’s directive and incorporating the Ministry of Health’s preventive measures and guidelines in their daily lives.
