COVID-19 CRISIS: Fear as two with coronavirus-like signs die in Gulu

KAMPALA – The Ministry of Health is investigating the death of two COVID-19 suspected patients who died from Lacor Hospital in Gulu.

According to a statement released Monday, April 27 by Lacor Hospital management, they received three patients that presented with signs similar to that of COVID-19.

“Unfortunately 2 of the patients passed on yesterday. These two patients were referrals from other neighbouring health facilities and came with other underlying diseases. They reached the hospital in a very critical condition, ” reads an excerpt.

Now that the ministry of health has in a statement revealed that samples have been taken from the deceased and they shall be announced later.

“The Ministry of Health has noted a statement issued by Lacor Hospital on the death of 2 COVID-19 suspected patients. Samples have been taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute for testing and we shall communicate results shortly. We appeal to the population to remain calm and practice preventive measures, ” reads a tweet from MoH.

Lacor Hospital further noted that they have no confirmed COVID-19 case.

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and St. Mary’s Hosptial Lacor are designated isolation centers for Covid-19 patients as designated by the Gulu District COVID -19 Taskforce.

Uganda has so far recorded 79 cases of COVID -19; most of the recent cases involve Kenyan and Tanzanian truck drivers.
