KAMPALA — Former security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde has been admitted to Kampala Hospital after collapsing in army detention, PML Daily has learnt.

A family member who did not want to be identified told this website that the former Security minister was rushed to hospital with a swollen leg on Sunday, March 15, 2020, after his health deteriorated on Saturday night.

It was not immediately clear what caused the swelling but his family member attributed it to psychological torture such as standing for long hours and dehydration.

“I think it’s because of standing for so long but we are waiting for the medical report,” the family member said.

The swollen leg, the family member said, is believed to be the one that was shot during the Bush War.

At Kampala Hospital, Tumukunde is closely guarded by CMI operatives with limited access to visitors, sources close to the matter added.

This came a day after the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence led by Brig Abel Kandiho searched Gen Tumukunde’s home in Kololo as they sought for evidence to back up their treason charges. Earlier on Friday, the police led by CID Director Grace Akullo had also checked the premises.

On Saturday, Tumukunde was allowed to shower and eat food served by wife Stella before he was handcuffed and taken back to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) headquarters in Kireka where he is being incarcerated.
