KAMPALA – Following the two-day training of Uganda Defense Forces (UPDF) by the ministry of health on prevention of Coronavirus spread, the officers have been tasked to be ready for the field in case of outbreak.

These were urged by Brig Gen Kusasira, the Director UPDF Medical Services who has on Tuesday, March 17 closed the training of UPDF medical personnel from various units under Land forces.

On behalf of UPDF and the Chief Medical Services, he thanked the facilitators and Ministry of Health in particular for the training offered.

Brig Dr Kusasira said it’s good that UPDF has been equipped with the theoretical knowledge on what to do and that now the medics need to sheave out what is practical and also remember to keep updating since a lot is still coming up.

“Be ready for deployment and with the knowledge acquired you should not be afraid,” Dr Kusasura added.

He strongly emphasized safety by taking the basic precautions even if they are overwhelmed with the number of patients.

He concluded by requesting the participants to pass on the information acquired to everyone in as simple terms as possible.

The trainees were taken through Surveillance on coronavirus disease, Mental Health and Psychosocial support, Infection Prevention and Control for coronavirus infection.

They were also taken through drills on how to protect themselves during the process of handling patients.
