KAMPALA – Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr Diana Atwine revealed that most hand sanitizers being sold on the Ugandan market in abid to contain deadly coronavirus are fake.
Dr Atwine was on Wednesday, March 18 appearing before the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament where she was questioned on how ready is the ministry on the virus fight in case it’s confirmed.
Dr Atwine has told the MPs that genuine hand sanitizers should have 60% alcohol.
The permanent secretary also informed the members of parliament that her ministry is overwhelmed with the work being done to prevent Coronavirus from making its way into Uganda.
“We shall be hiring temporary staff to help in this fight against the coronavirus,” says Dr Atwine.
The Ministry insists that there is no Coronavirus case in Uganda at the moment.
As of Wednesday, there have been 200,179 confirmed cases of coronavirus in 163 countries. 7,958 deaths have been confirmed while 82,492 individuals have recovered. 18 cases with 0 deaths have been confirmed in countries surrounding the Pearl.
As the country waits for President Museveni’s address on the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday evening, it is known that the public has had to deal with increased prices of hand sanitiser due to increased demand.
The state of the nation address will be relayed live on all television and radio stations at 5 PM.
