KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni will address the country again today on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 4pm, his senior press secretary Don Wanyama said.
The address that will be carried live on television and radio, Mr. Wanyama said, will be in light of confirmation of more eight cases of COVID-19 infection in Uganda.
“With eight new cases of COVID19 confirmed yesterday, President Museveni will address the country today at 4pm. Broadcast will be live on all TVs & radios,” Mr. Wanyama tweeted.
This is the fourth time the President will be addressing the country in a space of three days.
President is expected to issues a raft of additional guidelines in the bid to contain the virus that is fast spreading.
Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng on Monday night confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 in Uganda, raising the total to nine.
Aceng said all the 8 cases are Ugandan nationals who travelled back from Dubai, UAE.; 2 on the 20/03/2020 and 6 on the 22/03/2020 aboard the Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines flights.
She said they have all been isolated as all the persons who came into contact with them are being traced.
“We appeal to all travelers who have been in Dubai in the past two weeks to call the health desk on 0800-100-066 or 0800-203-033 for further follow-up.”
She urged the public to remain calm and practice the preventive measures including washing their hands always and maintain a social distance of 4 meters.
