KAMPALA – The Kyambogo University Dean of Students Dr Mildred Tibananuka has rejected the students request to have symbols and emblems of political parties as part of their details on ballot papers.

According to the March 11, 2020 statement, Ms Tibananuka noted that the University governance has never permitted politicising of the students’ guild leadership.

“The electoral process that is ongoing at Kyambogo University is for student leaders and not for any national political party or pressure group,” she said.

She added that, ” This is therefore to clarify to all students that no student is going to be allowed to use any form of political party or pressure group symbol on the ballot paper.”

Ms Tibananuka said the GUI presidential and GRC candidates who submitted electoral material including photographs to be used on the ballot papers which have any symbols relating to any political party or pressure group should submit another material or photograph without any of the symbols.

“Since the process of printing ballots is time barried, the new photograph should be submitted to the chair electoral not later than March 13, 2020. Failure to do so will leave no option to pack the candidate’s photograph fron his/her portal,” said Tibananuka.
