KAMPALA — Catholic Bishops of Uganda have said the faithful will now receive blessings via the Uganda Catholic Television (UCTV) to prevent crowds from gathering, as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus.

Under their umbrella body, the Uganda Episcopal Conference, the bishops also urged the clergy to use the available digital or online platforms to continue preaching the word of God.

“We dispense the faithful from the Sunday obligation to participate in the Holy Mass during this period; however, we encourage all Catholic radio stations to relay and broadcast Holy Mass on Sundays and weekdays. The faithful are advised to tune in at given times which are to be announced by the same radio stations. The faithful are also strongly encouraged to pray at their homes,” the bishops said in a statement signed by Bishop Anthony Zziwa, the chairman of Uganda Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese.

In February, Chairman of the Social Communications Commission for Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), Bishop Joseph Franzelli said authorities are making arrangements to have the signal reach all parts of the country through the various Pay TVs.

UCTV on Free to air

UCTV was connected by Signet Uganda to transmit on Free to Air on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

This website understands that the Church TV that has for the past weeks been under intense signal testing is transmitting within greater Kampala region on free to air which covers a radius of about 60 km

You should be able to receive the signal if you are within the 60 km radius and have a digital TV set connected to an antenna on a Free to air decoder.

GoTV Channel

UCTV was also connected to GoTV but can only for signal testing but can only cover the Kampala area.

How to access UCTV on GOtv (for Greater Kampala Region):

Press MENU on your GOtv remote

Use the scroll buttons on your remote until you see Advanced Options.

Press OK.

Then you will see, Installation, Press OK.

Then choose the Automatic Scan. Press OK.

Wait for about 5-8 minutes

After the scan, search through normally, you will see UCTV.
