KAMPALA— A privately-owned helicopter that had Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga onboard, bound for Kazo District ended up in Mubende after the pilot lost his way.

The over 170 -KM mistake happened on Saturday February 1, after the pilot of the privately-owned helicopter lost his way to Kazo District in Western Region where it was originally scheduled to land.

Ms. Kadaga who later arrived late presided over at a thanksgiving for Molly Kamukama, the recently appointed State Minister for Economic Monitoring.

“Unfortunately, the pilot lost his way and we ended up in Mubende; hence arriving late, in Kazo,” Ms. Kadaga said adding that “there’s a need to purchase a chopper, which will help Members of Parliament to execute their oversight role expeditiously.”

The army and police choppers are currently deployed in north eastern Uganda to spray locusts, a situation that forced the Speaker of Parliament to charter a privately-owned helicopter.

Meanwhile, the Speaker exalted President Museveni for elevating Kamukama from the civil service to the Cabinet.

“I counselled the youth to have self-belief and strive to get to the top like Molly [Kamukam] had done.

Ms. Kadaga also pledged to support Kazo, which was carved out of Kiruhura District, to access seed schools and a fully fledged hospital.

The President recently endorsed the political ambitions of his former Principal Private Secretary Kamukama, appointing her minister of State for Economic monitoring.

A move which is believed will bolster her ambitions of becoming Woman Member of Parliament for newly-created Kazo District.

It is expected that a ministerial position will help bolster her ambitions as well as seal support for the ruling NRM party in the area.

Mr Museveni is known to drop ministers that don’t hold constituencies.
