KAMPALA – The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has raised concern about the inhumane conduct of the Local Defence Unit (LDU) officers as they implement presidential directives on mitgations to control the spread of COVID-19 disease.

She said, “The unnecessary beating of Ugandans is a matter of grave concern. We acknowledge the need for a lockdown but let us have order in the way things are done.”

Speaker made her remarks during Tuesday’s plenary sitting in reaction to public outcry on the excessive source and tourture LDUs handle Ugandans they accuse of violating the Presidential directives on curbing the spread of COVID19.

The LDU officers have on different occasions seen in news clips battering people in guise of enforcing presidential directives, despite the fact that some of the people beaten up were selling food items, the President didn’t restrict.

Kadaga says the conduct of LDUs beating up people is disheartening and demanded for answers concerning the command structures of this group as they execute their work.
