
KAMPALA – The Police in Kampala have summoned Christ the King Parish Priest also Kampala Archdiocese Vicar General Msgr. Gerald Kalumba for saying mass on Sunday, March 22 as the country went into lockdown colliding the Coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Area (KMA) Spokesperson said Msgr. Kalumba was celebrating Mass at Christ the King Parish disregarding Presidential directives.
Mr. Onyango said Msgr. Kalumba who was briefly arrested by Police has been cautioned and released together with his congregation.
Police in Kisoro have detained Rev. Fr. John Bazimenyera, the dean of Mutolere Parish in Kabale Diocese, South Western Uganda for defying a presidential ban on the closure of churches to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Fr. Bazimenyera who had a backup of two nuns are said to have organized a Sunday Mass with over 40 ‘faithful’ at St. Peter’s Gisoro Catholic Parish in Kisoro.
Security officials led by Nelson Bataringaya, the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) Commander of 35th Battalion arrested Fr. Bazimenyera and dispersed the faithful.
Uganda on Saturday night confirmed her first case of an infection.
President Museveni who on Saturday announced the closure of all borders and a ban international air travel is set to address the country again on Sunday.
