KAMPALA – The People’s Government President Kizza Besigye and his Deputy President Erias Lukwago have on Tuesday, March 17 met the Supreme Mufti Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa and some leaders of the Kibuli Muslim community at Kibuli Administration offices.

The two teams held discussions on issues of national importance focusing on socio-political and economic challenges facing Ugandans, and desiring solutions from the People’s Government.

According to Besigye’s personal aide Ronald Muhinda, the Supreme Mufti and his team were deeply concerned about lack of attention to the longstanding Moslems community wrangles and disputes which they indicate have kept Muslims in divided.

They were also concerned about governance focusing on increased police brutality against opposition, suffocation of political space and suppression of political dissent.

Muhinda also said that Kibuli leadership was as well bothered by the economic hardships Ugandans are faced with at the moment including the business community that is witnessing unprecedented collapse of their businesses.

Besigye and Lukwago went to Kibuli with a message of hope and optimism about the future prospects of a new Uganda.

“Although they recognised that their hosts at Kibuli had real and legitimate concerns, they reminded the religious leaders of their duty to speak for the voiceless and join the people to demand for justice and equity,” Muhinda said.

Kizza Besigye said the cause of all Uganda’s problems is injustice, noting that without justice, Ugandans will be deprived of their desired social services.

Besigye stated that economic and business challenges, murder, mass oppression of people, harassment of political opponents have all been facilitated by the culture of gun men imposing themselves on powerless people.

On the issues of wrangles in the Moslem community, Besigye promised to study reports from previous investigations and will have an official response to guide on how to resolve them.

The Supreme Mufti handed to Besigye reports from past investigations.
