COVID-19 CRISIS: 23 arrested for ‘congesting’ in house in security crackdown

KAMPALA – The security’s Inter-Agency Joint Task Force has on Monday, March 30, 2020, arrested twenty three males for congesting in a small house.

According to a statement by the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, the suspects dified the directive of observing social distance as one of the measures of curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

“The suspects were picked from Nkokonjeru, Nsanji in Wakiso district. They’re currently detained at Nsangi Police Post,” reads an excerpt.

Mr Onyango noted that the suspects have no known kinship linkages and their unusual home Environment indicate that they could have been engaging in criminal activities.

He added that they will appear in court on March 31, 2020 on charges of doing neglect act likely to
spread infection of disease, disobedience of lawful order, and any other charges that may arise.

“The Joint Task Force further reminds the management of factories to ensure the work environment in their institutions are I’m conformity with the safety directives issued by the president and the guidelines by the ministry of health. Food market leaders are also beseeched to ensure the traders and their customers observe the safety guidelines against the spread of COVID-19,” reads the statement in part.

He further applauded members of the public who always reach them out to report cases of non- complaince by some individuals on the observance of the measures the nation embraced to to defeat COVID-19 pandemic.
