KAMPALA — A major fire broke out in a warehouse, filled with gas cylinders, at Ssebagala Road in Kisaasi on Saturday night.

According to reports, the fire was first seen at around 9:00 PM and it spread very fast as several flammable objects, including gas cylinders, were stored inside the building.

Several explosions were heard from the warehouse after the fire started, according to eyewitness accounts.

As the storehouse is located at a congested zone, the incident triggered a huge panic among the locals.
“It was serious….house burnt to the ground…we all ran out of our houses,” another one wrote.

Residents say, following the explosion, Umeme has cut of electricity in the Kisaasi, Kyanja and surrounding areas to protect further damages.

Four fire fighter trucks rushed to the spot and firemen fought for hours to bring the massive blaze under control.

After dousing the fire, police confirmed that no death.

Actually locals told URN journalist Davidson Ndyabihika that had police not responded on time, the entire place was going to burn down.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the house was having a lot of gas cylinders and each were going off one at time making multiple blasts.

”Our officers are currently at the scene fighting the fire with hope of extinguishing it soon,’ he said adding that “you shall be updated accordingly on the situation, Police said in an earlier statement.
