KAMPALA — People Power lawyers have expressed concern over the condition of their detained supporters and coordinator who were arrested on Monday January 6 in Gayaza and up to now are still languishing in Kasangati Police cells.

Shamim Malendde, one of People Power lawyers alleges that the supporters who are over 40 are locked up in a small room, and are struggling for breath.

Bobi Wine in a statement said so many of People Power supporters are still under illegal detention in Kasangati and other police stations.

“Our legal team has been working tirelessly to secure their release, but up to now, police is still playing ping pong games. As always, we shall stop at nothing to demand their unconditional release,” he said.

Bobi Wine said those arrested did not break any law.

“It is those who arrested them who broke and continue to break the law,” he said.

The music star, commonly known by his stage name Bobi Wine was arrested from his constituency on Monday January 6, and was released from Naggalama police custody late in the night but he swears such such incidents make him stronger as he sets his eyes on the presidency come 2021.

“What we know is that those who fight for freedom must always be prepared to face jail, torture or even death- because oppressors all over the world have the same DNA. They read from the same book. Therefore, be strong comrades. Eventually, we shall overcome!”

“You comrades are having your names engraved on the wall of those who fought for freedom!”

On Tuesday, Bobi Wine cancelled his meeting in Gulu, at De Covenant, a hangout in Layibi Division in Gulu Municipality to rescue his arrested colleagues.

Speaking at a pressure conference in Kampala, Bobi Wine said the Gulu meeting was canceled to to make sure “our arrested colleagues are out.”

“We are not going for the Gulu consultation meeting today. This is because we have to make sure our arrested colleagues are out. Our Lira consultation meeting is on because we have met all the guidelines,” he said.

Bobi Wine has denounced police brutality and said that the challenge is “we are dealing with a government that doesn’t respect the law. We are telling President Museveni and his police to respect the law and the ground should be levelled. We are taking you on in 2021 and we are winning.”
