KAMPALA– The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has disclosed that Parliament Week is soon getting underway and will start from January 20 to January 25, 2020.

Addressing the press at Parliament on January 15, Kadaga said the parliament week gives the public an opportunity to learn how Parliament works.

“One key highlight is the holding of a plenary in the main chamber by members of the public. They freely choose the topical issue and their Speaker. And above all, resolutions from their debate get presented to the full House for consideration,” she said.

She added that members of the public will be free to walk in and get to know what usually goes on at parliament.

“Public will be able visit all departments, meet their MPs, debate in chambers of Parliament and tour the Parliamentary building.”

Kadaga said among the events lined up for the parliament week is a prayer breakfast to be held on January 21, 2020.

“The prayer breakfast is held annually to thank God for the previous year and dedicate the New Year’s business to God,” Kadaga said.

She said, “At times we don’t have where to sit people who come for the public debate, I think it is something the public looks out for.”

She has urged the public to participate in the fundraising walk for the construction of a rehabilitation centre for persons living with albinism on January 20.
