NANSANA – The State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Friday, January 24, arrested several officials of the Nansana Municipality, including the town clerk and the councilors, over corruption and mismanagement.

Lt Col Edith Nakalema, the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, and her team stormed the municipal headquarters in the company of Wakiso RDC, the mayor, and Local Government Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya, among others.

The arrested officials were handed over to police while the ministry of local government took over the administration of the Nansana Municipal Council.

Kumumanya said the takeover was made to allow for a cleanup of the administration.

At the meeting in Nansana, officials from the Ministry of Local Government and State House anti-corruption unit, heard allegations about missing property rate revenue of UGX.985 million, UGX.250 million donor funds for HIV support activities, another UGX.120million from the Nansana green project, and, about delayed plan approvals which have led the municipality to lose UGX. 1.7billion.

The meeting heard that the town clerk has abandoned his station and has allegedly attended only one out of six meetings.
