KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has extended Andrew Kitaka’s contract as the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director for more six months.

in a letter dated January 10, 2020, Catherine Bitarakwate, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service wrote to Kitaka informing him about the renewal of his interim contract until June 18, 2020.

“I am pleased to inform you that His Excellency the President has, in exercise of the powers vested in him under Article 172 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Uganda directed that your appointment as KCCA Executive Director scale KCCA1 be extended for a period of six months with effect from December 18, 2019, to June 18, 2020,” Bitarakwate wrote.

In response, Kitaka applauded the president for having his contract extended.

“It’s my greatest honor to serve the city and country. I do not underestimate the task and challenges ahead but I do feel encouraged and hopeful about the progress we can collectively register for our city. I thank his excellency, the president for this opportunity to serve you,” Kitaka posted on his social media accounts.

Kitaka was appointed into the acting role at the City Authority on December 20, 2018, by then Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya on President’s directives to replace Jennifer Musisi after tendering in her resignation.

Kitaka briefly served at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), before he was hired by the European Union, where he served as an operations officer in charge of roads infrastructure.

In 2011, at the creation of Kampala Capital City Authority, Kitaka was appointed as the Director of Engineering and Technical Services in the new KCCA, a role he still occupies.
