KAMPALA – The banking fraternity is mourning the passing of one of their own who died while giving birth.

Sarah Kamazima Odwori, who has been working at Equity Bank Kasangati Branch, died at the weekend while giving birth.

The deceased is also an alumnus of Uganda Christian University Mukono.

Details of the burial were not available by the time of filing this story.

UCU former students under their body, the UCU Alumni Association, conveyed their condolences.

“The UCU Alumni Association conveys condolences to the family and friends of the Odworis.

Sarah Kamazima Odwori an Alumnae of Uganda Christian University passed on as she was giving birth. May the Lord strengthen the family and friends.”

Another Alumnus wrote: “Sad indeed, Maternal and Perinatal Death is still real. There is yet alot to be done if it has to be reduced.

May the soul of Sarah rest in eternal peace.”

Donors have lauded the Uganda government’s efforts and interventions to bring down the under-five mortality rate from 109 to 53 deaths per 1,000 live births between 2006-2016.

But at 336 deaths per 100,000 live births, the country’s maternal mortality rate is still among the highest on the continent and in the world.
