KAMPALA — Security forces on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 deported South Africa music icon Yvonne Chaka Chaka for refusing to meet President Museveni, PML Daily exclusively reports.

Initially, police had said that the legendary artiste was deported because she lacked a special visa that is required of one who is interested in doing business in a country, in this case, performing.

Chaka Chaka was slated to perform at the Buganda Kingdom’s Enkuuka Y’Omwaka hosted by CBS in Lubiri, Mengo.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said Chaka Chaka had entered the country on an ordinary visa of a visitor yet she had come to perform and required a special visa.

But according to an insider, Chaka Chaka, who publicly declared her support for Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine last year, was actually deported for refusing to meet President Yoweri Museveni.

Sources say the legendary South African Icon, who jetted in on Monday, had immediately turned down a request by State House to meet Museveni.

Mr Museveni had retreated to his ranch in Kisozi, Gomba District for the New Year.

While at his home, the President has during this season met and held discussions with a number of people, including Kanda Bongo Man.

According to sources, security had planned to briefly fly the celebrity singer in a UPDF chopper from Pearl of Africa Kampala to Kisozi for a brief engagement with the President, a request Chaka Chaka totally rejected even after she was ‘threatened’ with deportation.

Security forces then are said to have cordoned off Pearl of Africa hotel and ordered her to stop her rehearsal session for a brief private meeting with her.

They also demanded all staff and journalists present to switch off their phones or they be confiscated as they whisked Chaka Chaka off to an unknown destination.

During a private meeting with her, sources say, a UPDF General demanded that she either accepts to see the President or be deported.

Chaka Chaka reportedly refused to bow down to the threats, prompting security to cancel her Visa through immigration department.

Security then escorted her to Entebbe Airport and put her on the immediate Rwandair plane back to South Africa.

Mr. Museveni has previously hosted a number of international musician and celebrities who come to perform in Uganda in his latest bid to get both international and local attention.

He previously hosted American socialite couple, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian at Entebbe State House.

Museveni also received and welcomed Miss World, Vanessa Ponce, and also doubles as Miss Mexico who called on him at his country home in Rwakitura.
