KAMPALA – The Parliamentary Appointments Committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has on Monday, December 9 vetted the newly appointed Supreme Court justices and the newly appointed members of the board of the Uganda national oil company.

Among the justices vetted include the DPP Mike Chibita, justice Ezekiel Kurabiraha Muhanguzi and justice Percy night Tuhaise and the members of the Uganda national oil company include Emmanuel Katongole the chairperson, Francis Nagimesi member, Biwaga Stella Marie Cingtha member, Irene Pauline Batebe member, Andama Godfrey member, Twinamatsiko Francis member and Doreen Kabasindi member, Zulaika Mirembe Kasajja also a member of the board.

While speaking to journalists at Parliament after interfacing with the committee, Justice Chibita revealed that the Committee paid interest on his plans when he takes up his place on the Supreme Court.

He said, “They looked several areas, the work I have been working, challenges and how I have handled them, what I am going to do and what I hope to do to help the situation.”

He has also highlighted that the office of the DPP is still facing the problem of under-staffing which has to be settled immediately so that to make the work of the DPP very easy.

Justice Chibita said, “We still have the challenge of staffing, we are operating at 41% so the office is grossly understaffed, there is a lot of underfunding, there is an enabling law that has not been tabled yet in parliament. We shall have to aggressively work on tabling office of DPP law, to operationalise the operations of the DPP.”
