SERERE – Flash floods triggered by heavy rains have rendered several people in Serere district homeless.

The floods have submerged several homes and destroyed roads, making it hard for the community to access health services and other services in the district.

The most affected sub-counties are Kateta, Pingire, Adungulu, Kyere and Atiira where several homes have been submerged.

Mr. Steven Emitu the LC3 Chairperson Kateta sub-county in Serere District said the floods have caused serious damaged to families that had already been faced with hunger.

He said the floods were caused by the heavy rains that pounded the area for two straight days.

“This a serious disaster it has destroyed crops in the gardens, houses and damaged all the recently graded roads in the district making it hard for the public to get services,” he said.

Mr. Joseph Opit Okojo the LCV Chairman said he together with the Resident District Commissioner is compiling a report to send to the office of the Prime Minister.

“The situation is too bad I’m sure malaria is going to hit the district because most people now sleep under trees others in the nearby schools without treated mosquito nets,” he said.

He said the affected people have no food and they need urgent food relief to help the families.
