NAKAPIRIPIRIT — The security situation across Karamoja is currently worrying as the UPDF take on Karimojong cattle rustlers.

On Tuesday 24 December, there was heavy gunfire in Nkakapiripirit town council, Nakapiripirit district as UPDF forces engaged Pokot warriors who had attempted to raid animals in the kraal located at the town council.

The clash that lasted for about two and half hours left two Pokot warriors dead and one injured.

The UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson Major Telesphar Turyamumanya confirmed the incident saying the warriors were killed in an ambush laid by UPDF.

He said the incident took place around 7.00pm when some of the district officials were still finalizing with their office work.

According to Turyamumanya the warriors who were five in numbers are from Amudat district in Karamoja sub region.

“We got tip from concerned residents who saw five armed warriors crossing and alerted the force that the force set up an ambush very fast and we had a serious exchange and we managed to put two of them out of action and two guns recovered,” he said.

He said no animal was stolen and appealed the local community to always remain vigilant and provide information the UPDF on time for timely response.

PML Daily has learnt that this the second clash between UPDF and warriors in less than two weeks, on the 19 of this month UPDF killed three suspected Matheniko warriors and captured one, in a UPDF ambush in Kotido.

The warriors had raided 35 cows and they were driving them to Moroto through Kenya Uganda border but all the cows were recovered.
